Surrey Sea Lions Summer Swim Club is a non-profit organization. Volunteers are the heart and soul of the Club, and your dedication is vital to our success. By volunteering, you’re making a significant impact on the lives of young swimmers. Your time, skills, and enthusiasm help create a positive, inclusive environment where kids can learn, grow, and thrive in the sport of swimming.
To ensure that all families share their responsibilities fairly, we are currently reviewing our volunteer program. This review aims to create a more balanced and equitable system, making it easier for everyone to contribute and support the Surrey Sea Lions Summer Swim Club. By refining our approach, we hope to enhance the overall experience for our volunteers and ensure that every family can participate in a way that best suits their availability and skills. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work towards a more effective and inclusive volunteer program.
Earning and Recording Volunteer Hours
Each family must record and log your completed volunteer hours on the online Volunteer Tracking Sheet. This sheet will be reviewed regularly by the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure accuracy. The Sheet will be locked after each year's Provincial Championships and hours will be calculated. Please note: We will NOT be issuing partial refunds.
If you have any questions regarding your volunteer requirements, please conact our Volunteer Coordinator at [email protected] or any member from the list of Board of Directors.
Volunteer Deposit
As set out above, families must provide a postdated volunteer fee deposit cheque at the time of registration for the summer season. For families who complete all of their required volunteer hours during the season will have their cheque destroyed.
Volunteer Opportunities
Timing: No skill needed. You will sit at the end of your designated lane. The plunging system starts automatically with the clock. When the swimmer is about 10 m from the wall on their final lap, stand up, lean over the pool, and hold the plunger in one hand. The second you see the swimmer touch the wall, press the button on the plunger with your index finger. This will stop the clock and give them a time.
Officials: Training is required for Swim Meet Officials. Officials must attend an officials training session and then complete a certain amount of shadowing before they can work as an official independently. The Director of Officials will keep a record of your shift and decide when an official is ready to volunteer independently or upgrade to the next official level. Minimum green pin required to be an official.
Home Meet Volunteers: We need a lot of volunteers for our annual home meet at Bear Creek Outdoor Pool. Volunteer positions are deck food server, concession worker, cashier, silent auction, officials and more. Most of obligated volunteer hours are fulfilled at this two days event.
Regional and Provincial Championship Volunteers: Our club will be assgiend a specific responsiblity during both Regional and Provincial Championship by the Regional Office. We need all the help we can to ensure that we complete the assigned tasks.
